Don’t waste your money on baby items you don’t need!
Everyone always tells you that you need all of these fancy gadgets and things for baby, when in reality you definitely don’t. Some things are really gimmicky and a waste of your money. Somethings may make your life a little easier for a short amount of time, but you only use them for a couple of months and that’s it. Here’s my list of things that I personally don’t think you need for baby.
Baby Bath Tub
They have so many fancy baby bathtubs out there in today’s world and it is insane to me! They might be nice for the first couple of months but then they outgrow them or they try to climb out of them and it becomes a hazard. Plus how much room they take up? No thanks. I like to bathe my little littles in the kitchen sink and continue that until they no longer fit (my 1 year old still fits in the kitchen sink). Then by that time you can stick them in the big tub no problem!
Baby Bath Towels & Wash Cloths
Baby towels are another one of those items that are maybe good or a couple of months and then they outgrow them. Baby specific wash cloths I find to be so much more scratchy than just using regular wash cloths. I would also much rather use a big bath towel to wrap them up in instead of the thin baby bath towels.
With 3 kids, I’ve never used one. Not even when I had a changing pad on our pack ‘n’ play did I use it. I’d much rather change them on the couch, my bed, or on the floor
This is one of those gimmicky items in my opinion. Babies will get used to “cold” wipes. You won’t carry a wipe warmer with you in public so if they’re fine with a cold wipe while out and about, they’ll be fine with it all of the time. Plus a warm, wet environment just screams bacteria to me. I’ll kindly pass!
Fancy Baby Bedding
Oh the money you could spend on cute little baby bedding sets! They are super cute, but not practical. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you only have a tight fitted sheet in baby’s bed.
Baby nail clippers
I know a lot of people swear by these, but personally I’ve never been a big fan. I much prefer to use a regular nail clippers, they work just the same and not once have I clipped skin with those.
A swing is another thing that only gets used for a few months and then they’re wasted space. I know a lot of babies hate swings, but some love them. It’s a nice convenience, but is in no way a necessity to me.
Oh the cute little booties and baby shoes! I’ll admit, I bought a pair of Rifle Paper Co. x Keds because I couldn’t resist. They are so unnecessary though and now that she’s walking, she doesn’t like to wear shoes at all.
Boogie & Pacifier Wipes
Maybe it’s just me, but I use a regular baby wipe for faces. I like to stay away from baby wipes with alcohol anyway. Same with pacifiers, just use a baby wipe or put a couple of them in the diaper bag (or get a pacifier clip) and you’re good to go!
There you have it! That is my personal list of items that you don’t need as for a baby, but that you may think you need. Of course everyone is different and what I may not think I need, you may think you really need. There are always differences of opinion and that’s okay! Comment and let me know what you would add or remove from this list, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
